PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Borre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Borre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Carlos Silva!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Albert Achterberg and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva tries for a takedown but Borre circles away easily
and Borre cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.


It looks like Carlos Silva has been cut.
The fight stays on the outside here - Borre looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Borre shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Silva looks gassed!
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Borre is looking for a kimura but Silva is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Borre to get the leverage.
Borre is taking a breather. Silva says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Borre not doing much here.

Borre stands up from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Silva enables Borre to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Silva manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Borre passes Silva's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Borre takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Borre stands up from half guard.

Borre closes the distance and clinches.

Borre manages to pull guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Borre is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Borre keeping moving, preventing Silva from controlling successfully.

Silva got a little sloppy there for a moment and Borre has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Silva has managed to get both his arms back between Borre's legs - danger averted.
Silva trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Borre pushes Silva off and scrambles back to his feet.
Borre misses with a head kick.

Borre rushes Silva and presses him up against the cage.
Silva goes for a takedown in the clinch but Borre prevents it.
Borre tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!


Borre throws a hook to the side of Silva's head but Silva sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Silva tries to sprawl but Borre drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Borre looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Silva won't allow Borre to pass to mount.
Borre missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Borre throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Borre works his way into full mount!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Borre looking to secure an arm triangle but Silva defends it well.
A nice elbow there by Borre.

Borre looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Borre takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Silva is looking to improve his position but Borre isn't that keen on the idea.
Borre controlling the position easily from mount.

Borre jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Silva manages to avoid the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva tries to bench press Borre off him but Borre keeps the position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Borre tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Borre decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Borre has taken the fight to the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Borre's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Borre tries for a takedown. No joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Carlos Silva's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Borre closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Silva avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Borre.
Borre is pressing down on Silva's thigh, looking to free his foot. Silva is holding on for now.

Borre stands up and beckons Silva to join him on the feet.

Borre shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Silva napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Silva takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Borre landing a few strikes.

Borre sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Silva is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
John Borre overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Borre advances nicely into full mount.
Borre landing strikes from the mount and Silva is in trouble!
Borre looking to control and managing it successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Borre has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Silva defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Borre.

Borre fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Silva prevents Borre from taking his back.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Borre lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Carlos Silva has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Borre has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
