PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kari Tapio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tapio comes to the cage accompanied by Cannibal Corpse. John Jackson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kari Tapio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Paulsen Ambrosius and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson throws a right hand that misses
and Tapio counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Tapio shoots in for a takedown but Jackson shows good takedown defense.

Tapio shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Tapio was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Tapio looking to break Jackson's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Jackson remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Tapio will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Tapio misses with an elbow to the head.
Will Tapio go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tapio is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jackson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Tapio is really struggling to control Jackson but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Jackson controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
Jackson is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Tapio.
Tapio wants to control but Jackson is keeping busy.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

We're going to have a standup here because Kari Tapio wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Jackson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jackson leaves Tapio with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Tapio has a takedown stuffed.

Tapio ducks under a wild hook from Jackson.
Tapio closes the distance and clinches up with Jackson, looking for a takedown. Tapio pushes Jackson against the cage but Jackson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jackson swats away the attempt to clinch by Tapio.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Tapio takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Kari Tapio seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jackson lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Tapio takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Tapio tries to clinch but Jackson is having none of it.
Tapio tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jackson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tapio somewhat.
Jackson connects with a right hand. Tapio shakes it off.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Tapio is defended easily by Jackson.
Tapio tries for a takedown but Jackson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Tapio shoots for a takedown but Jackson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jackson feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Tapio sprawling to the canvas! Tapio rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Jackson finish him?!
