PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Easton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Karelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karelin has chosen Russian National Anthem as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mark Easton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Karelin!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Igor Prikhodko and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Easton lands a really nice looking cross but Karelin seems unphased.


It looks like Alex Karelin has been cut.
Karelin jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Karelin is looking to clinch but Easton is avoiding it.
Karelin keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Karelin throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Easton tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Karelin is in Easton's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Easton utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Karelin advances position into side control!
Karelin fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Karelin throwing strikes but Easton manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Karelin managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Easton.
Karelin stops Easton from passing to mount.
Karelin tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Easton working the ground and pound but Karelin is defending the strikes.
Easton lands an elbow.
Easton tries to score with some ground and pound. Karelin controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Easton decides to stand up, so the ref orders Karelin to his feet.
Easton dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Karelin. That did some damage!

and Karelin counters with a single leg into guard. Easton didn't expect that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Karelin works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Karelin prevents Easton from improving his position.
Karelin is looking to take a break and control but Easton is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Karelin is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Karelin throws a strike but Easton avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Karelin trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Karelin with a flurry of punches that miss.
Easton avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Easton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Karelin is one step ahead there.

Easton is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Karelin defends well.
Karelin throwing strikes from guard but Easton blocks nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Karelin stops Easton from standing up.
Easton keeping moving, preventing Karelin from controlling successfully.
Karelin content to stall in guard here.

Easton looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mark Easton will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Alex Karelin's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Easton wants to clinch but Karelin slips to the side
and Karelin counters with a nice body shot.
Easton throws a lazy uppercut
and Karelin counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Good standup being displayed there by Karelin as he connects with a hook.


It looks like Mark Easton has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Karelin throws a good cross that connects.
Easton looks up at the clock. Bad move! Karelin lands a right hand from hell, dropping Easton. Karelin pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alex Karelin!
