PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johny Lock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve McRae (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying McRae's choice of entrance music: Indestructible. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johny Lock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve McRae!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, William Peck and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A bone on bone clash there as Lock blocks the leg kick.
McRae wants to clinch.
McRae tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lock was well out of range. Poor timing from McRae.
McRae swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and McRae takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
McRae shoots for a double leg takedown but Lock sprawls well. He's pushed McRae's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Lock dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Lock throws a body kick that misses.
McRae thows a leg kick but Lock checks it
and Lock counters with a flying knee. Nice.
McRae misses the body punch
and Lock counters with a left and a right that stings McRae.
McRae looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lock is fending him off so far but McRae persists. Nope, Lock circles away and we're back to standing.
McRae walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

McRae has taken the fight to the clinch.
Lock landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Lock wants the takedown. McRae is fighting it off but Lock persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in McRae's guard against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lock slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Lock drops back looking for a leg! McRae is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and McRae manages to kick Lock off! Lock jumps back into McRae's guard.

McRae is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Lock gets full guard.

Lock pulls McRae in to control the position.
Lock is trying to keep McRae in close.
Lock bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McRae's guard.
McRae throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Lock is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But McRae has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from McRae!
McRae wants to control from the top but Lock keeps moving.

Lock had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. McRae defends it easily.

Lock is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Lock seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Steve McRae.

McRae tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Lock missing with a left hand there. McRae was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
McRae pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Lock throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Lock!
McRae fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Lock manages to avoid it.
McRae avoids the body shot from Lock.
McRae misses with a low kick as Lock jumps back.
Lock misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
McRae attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Lock thows a body shot but no joy.
Steve McRae seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McRae lands the left hand.
Nice sprawl there from McRae as Lock shoots in.
Lock throws the left hand but McRae avoids the punch easily.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lock is defended easily by McRae.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lock controls McRae momentarily but McRae frees himself.

McRae is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Lock has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. McRae is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Lock.
McRae wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lock keeps working.
McRae happy to just control the position for now.
McRae grinds an elbow into Lock's temple.

Lock trying to remain calm as McRae controls from the top position.
Lock wants to control but McRae postures up.
McRae is staying tight to Lock's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Lock tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McRae wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Steve McRae has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from McRae, right into the meat.
McRae wants to slow Lock down by chopping away at his legs.
McRae swings for the body but Lock moves out of range.

and Lock counters with a nice body shot.

McRae throws a solid leg kick but Lock takes the impact on his shin and smiles at McRae.
Lock uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before McRae has time to react.
McRae tries to close the distance and clinch but Lock swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Lock takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
McRae misses with a hook. Lock ducked under it nicely.
Lock scores with a shot to the body.
Lock lands with a nice body punch.
McRae is breathing heavily.
McRae tries to clinch up but Lock circles away and keeps his distance.
Lock throws a head kick but McRae moves out of range.
Nice defenses there by McRae.
McRae stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and McRae wants it to stay on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve McRae showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

McRae takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

That kick from Lock tenderised McRae's leg. McRae is trying to keep his angry face on.

McRae changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lock looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Lock gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Lock is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Lock works his way to full guard. Good work.

Lock had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. McRae defends it easily.
McRae is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
McRae takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Lock looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

McRae got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lock has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McRae has managed to get both his arms back between Lock's legs - danger averted.

Lock working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. McRae doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. McRae manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Lock is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McRae is aware though and is defending well.

Lock has his foot on McRae's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. McRae works his way back into a safe position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McRae wants to pass the guard but Lock is keeping the position.
Lock looking to control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Lock misses with a looping right.
Lock tries a head kick but it misses.
McRae rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Lock counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. McRae is lucky that one didn't land flush.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Lock checks a leg kick.
Johny Lock is winning the standup battle so far.
McRae tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lock paws at him with a jab and circles away.
McRae gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Lock misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from McRae. Lock does a little dance to reset his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
Johny Lock showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Lock has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
