The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belfort fails with the takedown

and Routalempi counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Belfort is looking to stand up but Routalempi isn't so interested in that idea.
Belfort wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Routalempi manages to pass to side control.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Pekka Routalempi wasn't active enough on the ground.
Routalempi misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Routalempi jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Belfort tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Routalempi swivels and escapes.
Nice takedown defense from Routalempi. No joy for Belfort on that attempt.
