PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris Bell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Domingo Santiago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Santiago comes into a darkened arena with his song building. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd517MxUkGw kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Chris Bell is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris Bell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Domingo Santiago!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santiago fails to land with a series of punches.
Santiago tries to clinch up.
Domingo Santiago seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Santiago is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Santiago has taken the fight to the clinch.
Santiago is trying to break free.
Bell keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Santiago's efforts to push away.
Santiago jumps guard but Bell stands there with Santiago around his waist. Santiago gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Santiago looking for a guillotine here but Bell defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Santiago working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Santiago wants to stand but Bell is controlling the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Bell connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

That was a close round but I would say that Chris Bell will probably get the nod.

Bell on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Santiago misses with a takedown attempt - Bell sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Chris Bell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Domingo Santiago.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

and Bell counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Santiago thinking.

Bell fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Santiago looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Santiago has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Santiago there as he acknowledges the shot.
Santiago looks for a takedown but Bell sprawls well.
Chris Bell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Domingo Santiago.

Bell moves out of range as Santiago throws a body kick.
Santiago has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Bell scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Bell lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Santiago doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Bell uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Santiago has time to react.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bell, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
