PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Monty Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Angus Newman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brown comes to the cage accompanied by Go Go Power Ranger by Ron Wasserman. Newman is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: "I'm Broken" by Pantera. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Monty Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Angus Newman!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brown gets the takedown into side control.

Brown is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Newman knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Brown creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Newman sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Brown throws a strike aimed at the side of Newman's head but Newman avoids it well.
Newman can't do much from the bottom here.
Newman tries to buck Brown off but Brown is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Newman takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Newman takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Brown is trying to get an arm triangle but Newman is defending well.
Newman is looking to reverse the position.
Brown works to advance to full mount. Newman defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Brown fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Brown looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Newman is in a horrible position here. Brown smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Newman should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Brown swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Newman is now in Brown's guard. A big mistake from Brown there, giving up the dominant position!

Brown is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Newman wants to control from the top but Brown keeps moving.

Brown throws a series of punches but Newman avoids them all with ease.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

and Brown counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Newman's guard now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Newman is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brown is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Newman is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Brown connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Newman some visible discomfort.

Brown looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Newman with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Brown wants to free his trapped foot but Newman is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Monty Brown overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Newman covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Brown is punishing Newman with strikes - can he finish him?!
Brown is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Newman can do to turn this around?

Brown has the hooks in. Newman is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Newman is breathing heavily.

Brown goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Newman escapes and is now in half guard on top.
Newman wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brown keeps working.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Brown manages to get to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

so Brown counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Brown seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Brown distracts Newman with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Brown drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Newman manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Brown has Newman in his guard.

Brown working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Newman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Newman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Brown has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Brown passes Newman's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Newman is looking to control Brown's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Newman avoid being mounted?
Brown prevents Newman from standing back up.
Angus Newman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Brown working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Newman's thigh. Newman counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Brown working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Newman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Brown postures up in Newman's guard and throws a big left but Newman blocks it.
Newman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Brown trying to control but Newman is working from the bottom.

Brown drops back looking for a leg! Newman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Newman manages to kick Brown off! Brown jumps back into Newman's guard.
Brown slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Monty Brown showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Brown has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
