PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Leifi Polomeros (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ruki Pushki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leifi Polomeros!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ruki Pushki!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Valeri Chadov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pushki fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Polomeros sprawls well initially but Pushki persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pushki in particular looking to stall.
Let's hope that Pushki has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Polomeros is trying to stand back up but Pushki is controlling him
Pushki is taking a breather. Polomeros says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ruki Pushki wasn't active enough on the ground.

Pushki darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ruki Pushki hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Polomeros bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

I looks like Pushki might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Polomeros rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Pushki moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Polomeros gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pushki to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Pushki slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Pushki remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Pushki is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Polomeros is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Polomeros shoots in looking for a takedown. Pushki tries to sprawl out of it but Polomeros keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Pushki manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Polomeros leaves Pushki with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Pushki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Polomeros tries to avoid it but Pushki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Polomeros to the ground. Polomeros escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Pushki has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
