PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Battling Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dick Stu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bob comes to the cage accompanied by Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Battling Bob!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dick Stu!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bob is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Stu's half guard.
Stu wants to get back to full guard.
Bob thows a huge punch but Stu dodges it nicely.
Stu is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Bob throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Bob wants to pass to mount but Stu is defending the position.
Stu manages to get to full guard.
Bob looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bob trying to control but Stu is working from the bottom.
Bob tries to free his leg and advance position but Stu is retaining full guard.
Bob is looking to work some ground and pound but Stu has wrist control.
Stu keeping full guard, as Bob tries to pass.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bob sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stu's guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Bob wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stu keeps working.
Stu regains full guard. Nicely done.
Stu keeping moving, preventing Bob from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bob slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Battling Bob just wasn't active enough.

Bob closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Stu quickly recovers to half guard.

Bob is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Stu is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bob takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Stu is looking to land body kicks.

Bob shoots in and bounces Stu off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Bob loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Bob sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stu's guard.
Bob is taking a breather. Stu says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Bob wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stu keeps working.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bob is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Stu is staying active underneath Bob, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Bob missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Stu tries to get to full guard but Bob has control of the leg.
Stu won't allow Bob to pass to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bob is looking to stall here but Stu recovers full guard.
Bob wants to control from the top but Stu keeps moving.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bob controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Battling Bob has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Stu buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Stu throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Stu lands a nice leg kick that just misses Bob's sensitive parts.
Stu stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Stu wants it to stay on the feet.
Bob misses with a wild body shot.

Stu tries to sprawl but Bob drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Stu blocking the ground and pound attempt from Bob.
Stu controlling the position well.
Stu wants to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bob thows a huge punch but Stu dodges it nicely.

Bob thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Bob scoring with strikes but Stu is staying in there.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Stu throws a sloppy head kick and Bob moves out of range easily.
Stu misses with a head kick.
Stu tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bob misses with a hook.
A head kick misses from Stu.
Stu slaps away a takedown attempt from Bob, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Bob connects with a body shot.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Bob.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Bob.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Battling Bob. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bob fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Stu avoids it really well and circles away.

Bob drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Stu keeping full guard, as Bob tries to pass.

Stu lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bob!
Stu controlling his opponent.
Stu prevents Bob from getting the reversal.
Bob is working hard here to advance position.
Stu tries to control but Bob wriggling away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Stu controlling his opponent.
Bob sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Bob gets full guard.
Bob manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Stu is looking to get to half guard.
Stu takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bob looking to finish Stu with some ground and pound. This is bad for Stu!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bob thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Bob controlling from mount.
Bob pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Bob trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Bob is stalling here but it's allowed Stu to get half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bob not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Bob is controlling the pace.
Bob thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Stu's head.
Dick Stu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bob landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Bob is trying to control the action in half guard but Stu is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Battling Bob showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bob, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
