Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mauricio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kazushi Sakuraba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mauricio Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kazushi Sakuraba!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Nard Betker and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Rua shoots in but Sakuraba avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Rua fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mauricio Rua. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sakuraba pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sakuraba pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Rua moves out of range of the strikes.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rua takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Oh Rua is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

and Rua counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sakuraba won't be happy with that.
Sakuraba is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Rua asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Sakuraba sneaks out the side door and pushes Rua away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Rua tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Sakuraba paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Rua is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sakuraba sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

and Rua decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sakuraba's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sakuraba wants to get back to his feet but Rua is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Rua shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Rua closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rua lands in his opponent's guard.

Rua slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Sakuraba is pushing Rua's head away, looking to escape. Rua manages to hold on to the position though.

Rua is putting a hurting on Sakuraba here, landing some big shots from side control.
Sakuraba is trying to get back to his feet.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Rua looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Sakuraba is avoiding damage well.
Rua is looking to take a break and control but Sakuraba is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sakuraba parries the strikes from Rua easily there. Rua is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Sakuraba to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sakuraba stops Rua from passing to mount.
Rua tries to score with some ground and pound. Sakuraba controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Rua seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sakuraba does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

You get the feeling that Sakuraba really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Rua bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Sakuraba takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Rua breaks from Sakuraba's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Rua is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Sakuraba has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Rua is landing with strikes. Sakuraba can't take much more of this.

Rua has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Sakuraba! Can he survive? No! He's out! Rua gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
