PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rod Quantock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Evander Roy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rod Quantock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Evander Roy!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Skip Squint and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quantock throws a nice looking combination but Roy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Roy fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Roy moves in looking to clinch but Quantock pushes him off.
Roy wants to clinch up but Quantock keeps it at a distance.
Roy tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Quantock paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Roy tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Quantock manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Quantock.

Quantock will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Roy shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Roy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Quantock swivels and escapes.
Rod Quantock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Evander Roy.
Roy dives in and grabs Quantock's left leg, looking for a takedown. Quantock pushes down on Roy's head and hops out.
Quantock misses with a low kick.
Evander Roy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Roy tries to land a front kick but Quantock steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Roy lands a nice leg kick that just misses Quantock's sensitive parts.
Quantock shoots in but no luck this time.
Roy tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Quantock looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Roy darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Roy seems to be looking for submissions.
Quantock is trying to get back to full guard.

Roy is working for a kimura but Quantock is defending it quite comfortably.
Roy perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Roy is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Quantock doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Roy.
Quantock keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Quantock is refusing to be controlled, as Roy sits in half guard.
Roy throwing shots but Quantock is blocking nicely.

Roy is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Quantock has managed to free his arm - good work.
Roy tries to pass the half guard into mount. Quantock knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Roy is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Roy stops Quantock from getting back to his feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Roy trying to control the action but Quantock is working from the bottom.
Quantock tries to kick Roy off but Roy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Roy thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Quantock is trying to stand back up but Roy is controlling him
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Quantock is looking for a sweep. Roy is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

A punch combination from Quantock misses.
Quantock lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Roy at a distance.
Roy tries to close the distance and clinch up but Quantock swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Quantock keeps the fight on the outside.

Roy drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Roy pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Quantock is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Roy throws a big right hand that misses.
Roy throws a strike but Quantock rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Roy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Roy throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Roy controls Quantock momentarily but Quantock frees himself.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Evander Roy was stalling too much, according to the referee.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Roy enables Quantock to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Roy manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Quantock postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Quantock passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Quantock advances to mount.
Quantock prevents Roy from getting the reversal.
Quantock wants to control the pace but Roy is squirming around nicely.
Roy is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
You get the feeling that Roy really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Roy is looking to get to half guard.
Roy manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Roy wants to improve his position but Quantock is controlling well.

Quantock is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Roy defends it well.
Quantock slows the pace down in half guard.
Roy tries to get to full guard but Quantock has control of the leg.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Roy makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Roy.

Quantock stands up from Roy's guard - Quantock perhaps looking for a knockout.
Roy shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Quantock as he avoids it easily.
Quantock avoids the head kick by Roy.
Rod Quantock is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Roy misses with a takedown
and Quantock counters with a straight right hand.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The fight stays on the outside here - Roy looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Roy shoots in looking for a takedown but Quantock manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Roy's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Roy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Still in half guard, Quantock seems content to control.

Quantock is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Roy moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Quantock drops back looking for a leg! Roy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Roy manages to kick Quantock off! Quantock jumps back into Roy's guard.
Quantock is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Roy doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Roy manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Quantock manages to get himself to full guard.

Roy tries to free his leg and advance position but Quantock is retaining full guard.

Roy is looking for a kimura but Quantock is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Roy to get the leverage.

Roy is looking for submissions but instead, Quantock has regained full guard.
Rod Quantock overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Roy wants to control from the top but Quantock keeps moving.

Quantock had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Roy defends it easily.
Roy pushes down on Quantock's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Quantock wants to get back to full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rod Quantock showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Quantock has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
