PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Greg Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Valente Rocha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson comes to the cage accompanied by Get it Started. Rocha comes into a darkened arena with his song building. "Remember The Name" by Fort Minor kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Greg Johnson has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Valente Rocha!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson tries a head kick but it misses.

Johnson shoots in and bounces Rocha off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Johnson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Johnson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Johnson is looking to advance position but Rocha has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Johnson tries to hold on but Rocha pushes him away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rocha prevents Johnson from getting the reversal.
Johnson bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Rocha has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Johnson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Rocha lands an elbow that stopped Johnson in his tracks for a moment.
Rocha misses with a hook to the ribs.
Rocha tries to land knees in the clinch but Johnson avoids the damage to the body.

Johnson is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Rocha is keeping busy.

Johnson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Johnson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Johnson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rocha looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Johnson is looking to take a break and control but Rocha is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Johnson lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Rocha down.

Rocha is looking for a sweep.
Johnson takes a little break here. Rocha wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Rocha gets caught flat footed, as Johnson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Johnson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Johnson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rocha is proving hard to escape from.
Rocha pulls Johnson in close to prevent any damage.

Johnson tries to free his leg and advance position but Rocha is retaining full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Rocha bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Johnson's guard.
Johnson controls Rocha momentarily but Rocha frees himself.
Rocha keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Johnson's head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson looking for a guillotine here but Rocha defends easily.
Johnson wants to sweep but no luck.
Rocha is fighting to break Johnson's control of his arms but Johnson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Rocha must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rocha slips nicely into half guard.
Johnson is trying to get back to full guard.

Johnson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rocha is working away from the top position though.

Rocha has hold of Johnson's hands but Johnson slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Johnson looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Johnson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rocha does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Johnson works his way into side control.
Rocha manages to get back to half guard.
Greg Johnson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rocha is trying to stand.

Rocha is trying to get back to full guard.
Johnson is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Johnson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Rocha won't allow Johnson to pass to mount.
Rocha is trying to stand up here but Johnson is controlling him well.

Johnson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Rocha lands a nice shot to the body.
Rocha has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Johnson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Johnson has control of Rocha's left arm, preventing Rocha from doing any damage.

Johnson has his feet on Rocha's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
