PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Peter Pan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ari Velazquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velazquez has chosen DMX- We go hard as his entrance music. Ari Velazquez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Pan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ari Velazquez!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velazquez thows a body shot but no joy.

Pan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Pan is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Pan not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Velazquez blocking the ground and pound attempt from Pan.
Pan throwing shots but Velazquez is blocking nicely.
Velazquez keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Pan trying to control the pace.
Pan thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pan with the ground and pound but Velazquez uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Pan throwing strikes but missing.

Pan drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Velazquez dives on top into guard.
Pan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Pan tries to get out of the position.
Pan looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Velazquez tries to free his leg and advance position but Pan is retaining full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pan is looking to stand back up but Velazquez counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Pan.
Pan works his way to full guard. Good work.

Pan looking for a guillotine here but Velazquez defends easily.
Velazquez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pan is keeping the position for now.
Pan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Pan kicks Velazquez off and gets to his feet.
Velazquez throws an overhand right that lands on Pan's shoulder, as Pan tries to avoid the shot.
Velazquez paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Pan closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Velazquez did well to prevent Pan getting side control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Velazquez gets back to full guard.
Pan looking to pass the guard.

Pan drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Velazquez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Pan has Velazquez in his guard.

Pan pulls Velazquez in to control the position.
Velazquez preventing the sweep.
Pan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Pan looking for a sweep. Not yet Pan, not yet.
Pan is looking to stand up but Velazquez isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Pan dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Velazquez lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Pan at a distance.
Velazquez throws out a loose jab but Pan uses good head movement to avoid it.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Velazquez throws a combination. Pan tries to block but a couple of punches get through.


It looks like Peter Pan has been cut.

Pan closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pan thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Velazquez's head.
Velazquez trying to control but Pan postures up.
Pan scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pan thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Pan working over Velazquez with some ground and pound. Velazquez looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Pan throwing shots but Velazquez is blocking nicely.
Velazquez avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Pan.

Pan is working for a submission of some sort.

Pan trying to control from half guard but Velazquez is working away.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pan not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Pan prevents Velazquez from improving his position.

Pan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Pan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pan throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Pan not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Velazquez avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Pan.

Pan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Velazquez defends it well.
Pan is nestled in close to Velazquez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Pan is just content to waste time from the top position. Velazquez takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Pan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Pan postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Velazquez is trying to control the position but Pan postures up.
Pan throws a big right hand that misses.
Velazquez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Pan.
Velazquez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Pan looking to sit in guard and control but Velazquez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Velazquez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Pan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Pan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ari Velazquez will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Peter Pan's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Velazquez scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Pan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Pan lands in his opponent's guard.
Velazquez keeping moving, preventing Pan from controlling successfully.

Velazquez controls Pan momentarily but Pan frees himself.

Pan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Pan takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Pan fails with the takedown.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Velazquez, as that shot connected.
Peter Pan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Pan shoots in and drives through. Velazquez sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Pan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Velazquez scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Velazquez is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Nice body punch from Velazquez.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Pan takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Velazquez connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Pan's hands.
Velazquez has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pan fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Velazquez sizes up Pan with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Velazquez jabs Pan right on the nose. Pan blinks but takes it well.


Pan is rocked!

Velazquez feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Pan sprawling to the canvas! Pan rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Velazquez finish him?!
Oh Pan is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pan glances at the clock... BAM! Velazquez nails him with a big right hand! A momentary lapse in concentration sends Pan crashing to the mat! The referee steps in and this one is over! Damn, Pan is out of it, he thinks the ref is his opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:08 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ari Velazquez!
