PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kim Figueroa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paulo Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Figueroa might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Ride the Lighting. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kim Figueroa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paulo Kang!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Figueroa moves in looking to clinch but Kang pushes him off.
Kang keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Kang thows a leg kick but Figueroa checks it
and Figueroa counters with a good low kick that Kang was not able to check.
Kang looks to land a left hand but Figueroa moved out of range nicely.
Figueroa lands a nice leg kick that just misses Kang's sensitive parts.
Figueroa takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Kang throws a predictable looking body shot
and Figueroa counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Good leg kick by Figueroa there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Figueroa is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kim Figueroa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Figueroa makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

and Figueroa counters with a big head kick but Kang shrugs it off.
Figueroa tries to close the distance and clinch but Kang swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Figueroa counters with a good low kick that Kang was not able to check.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kang stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Figueroa.

and Kang counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Kang keeps the fight on the outside.

Figueroa tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Kang is able to avoid easily.

and Figueroa makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Figueroa throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Figueroa. Kang shrugs it off though.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Figueroa tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kang paws at him with a jab and circles away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kim Figueroa dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kang throws a body punch but Figueroa moves out of range.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like Paulo Kang has been cut.
Kang's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Kang takes an elbow to the forehead.
Kang is looking to control Figueroa's arms but Figueroa gets an underhook and turns him. Now Kang has his back to the cage.
Figueroa throws an elbow but it misses.
Figueroa creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Kang's defenses.
Kang wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Kang throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Figueroa blocks it with crossed arms.
The referee is keeping an eye on Figueroa - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Figueroa does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Figueroa has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

and Figueroa counters with an inside leg kick.
Figueroa throws a body punch but Kang moves out of range.

and Figueroa counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Kang is lucky that one didn't land flush.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Figueroa ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kang moves away.

Kim Figueroa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Kang is still on wobbly legs! Can Figueroa finish him?

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Figueroa fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kang has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Kang seems to have recovered his senses.

Kim Figueroa showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Figueroa has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
