PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Martyn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Stubb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Martyn might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Live For The Moment. Stubb comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Paper Scratcher kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Thomas Martyn is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thomas Martyn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michael Stubb!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Martyn shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Stubb's guard.
Stubb looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Martyn wants to control from the top but Stubb keeps moving.
Martyn loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Stubb not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Stubb enables Martyn to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Stubb manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Martyn knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stubb on the ground.
Martyn passes Stubb's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Martyn throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Martyn is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Stubb is just riding it out for now. Martyn eventually gives up the hold.

Martyn is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Stubb has managed to free his arm - good work.

Martyn cracks Stubb with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Martyn lands a big shot there that rocks Stubb but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Martyn goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Stubb turns into him and now he's in Martyn's guard.

Martyn wriggles free and stands up.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Thomas Martyn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Stubb bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Martyn can't do much from the bottom here.
Martyn is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Stubb's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Thomas Martyn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Martyn wants to control but Stubb is keeping busy.

Martyn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Stubb doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Stubb manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Stubb thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Stubb stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Martyn swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Martyn is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Martyn throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Martyn has his feet on Stubb's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Martyn has closed the distance and engaged Stubb in a clinch.
Stubb tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Martyn just stands there and leans against the cage.
Martyn lands an elbow inside.

Martyn is trying to keep Stubb in close.

Stubb drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Stubb jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Martyn tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Martyn wants to stand but Stubb is controlling the position.

Stubb drops back looking for a leg! Martyn is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Martyn manages to kick Stubb off! Stubb jumps back into Martyn's guard.

Stubb got a little sloppy there for a moment and Martyn has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Stubb has managed to get both his arms back between Martyn's legs - danger averted.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Martyn wants to stand but Stubb is controlling the position.

Stubb postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Martyn is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Stubb, into his guard.

Martyn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Martyn wants to control from the top but Stubb keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thomas Martyn dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Martyn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Michael Stubb seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Martyn lands a head kick. Stubb smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Martyn darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Martyn tries to pass to full mount but Stubb defends it.
Martyn not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Martyn looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Stubb with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Martyn is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Stubb is just riding it out for now. Martyn eventually gives up the hold.

Martyn frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Martyn is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Stubb is surviving well by controlling Martyn's body position as best he can.
Stubb is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Martyn breaks from Stubb's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Martyn has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Stubb's face.
Martyn postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Stubb looks a forlorn figure.
Martyn connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Stubb is squirming around, avoiding Martyn's attempts to control the action.
Martyn avoids the attempt from Stubb to control.

Stubb can't escape the position.

Martyn jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Stubb manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Thomas Martyn is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Stubb is not content to let Martyn control the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Martyn in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Well Martyn has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
