PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Setsuko Sasaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eros Wes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eros Wes will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Setsuko Sasaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Eros Wes!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sasaki drives through with a takedown into guard.
Wes is trying to control the position but Sasaki postures up.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Sasaki trying to control the position from guard on top but Wes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wes is pulling down on Sasaki's head to control his posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Eros Wes was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Sasaki changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Wes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Wes can't do much from the bottom here.

Sasaki is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wes knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
You can see the frustration on Wes's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Wes is trying to improve his position.

Sasaki is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Wes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Wes throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

Sasaki is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Wes has escaped the position, nice work there.

Sasaki wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wes keeps working.
Sasaki creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Wes is trying to control Sasaki's posture but Sasaki avoids it.

Sasaki thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Sasaki misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
The ground and pound from Sasaki seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Sasaki has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Sasaki thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Wes is not content to let Sasaki control the position.

Sasaki creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Wes sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Sasaki tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sasaki has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Wes struggling a bit here.
Wes is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Sasaki asserts his dominance and retains side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sasaki stops Wes from getting back to his feet.
Wes looks gassed!

Sasaki seems to be looking for submissions.
Sasaki sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Wes defending well though.
Wes is looking to control Sasaki's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Wes avoid being mounted?

Sasaki is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Sasaki wants to work for an arm triangle but Wes is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's time! Sasaki's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Wes throws a front kick aimed at Sasaki's knee but Sasaki avoids it well.
Wes tries to close the distance and clinch but Sasaki swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Wes decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Sasaki actively working from the bottom here.
Sasaki keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Wes is trying to control the action in half guard but Sasaki is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Sasaki won't allow Wes to pass to mount.
Sasaki is looking to control Wes's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sasaki avoid being mounted?
Wes prevents Sasaki from improving his position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sasaki moves into full guard.

Sasaki escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sasaki keeping moving, preventing Wes from controlling successfully.
Sasaki could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Sasaki has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wes not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Wes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Wes is looking to work some ground and pound but Sasaki has wrist control.
Wes with a flurry of punches that miss.
Wes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Sasaki keeping moving, preventing Wes from controlling successfully.

Wes tries to bum rush Sasaki with a series of wild strikes but Sasaki uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Sasaki counters with a nice double leg into side control. Wes won't be happy with that.
Sasaki is looking to take a break and control but Wes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Sasaki is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Wes pulls his head out easily.
Wes is looking to take a break and control but Sasaki is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Wes moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Sasaki.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sasaki is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Wes looking to control but Sasaki is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Wes controlling the pace for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Eros Wes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sasaki has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
