The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Felipe Paraventi and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Penn actively working from the bottom here.
Diaz is trying to control. Penn wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Penn regains full guard. Nicely done.
Diaz controls from within his opponent's guard.
Diaz lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Diaz wants to stand but Penn is controlling his posture from full guard.
Penn had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Diaz defends it easily.
Diaz working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Diaz must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Penn is trying to control the position but Diaz postures up.
Diaz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Penn, up you get!
BJ Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Diaz takes a jab right on the kisser.
Diaz has closed the distance and engaged Penn in a clinch.
Diaz is trying to trip Penn. He has hold of a leg but Penn is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Diaz persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Diaz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Penn manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Diaz manages to get himself to full guard.

Diaz wants to sweep here but Penn controlling him for the moment.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The ref stands the fighters back up because BJ Penn just wasn't active enough.
Penn goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Diaz looks gassed!
A shot to the liver by Penn. Beautiful body shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The fighters circle momentarily. Penn darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Penn lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Diaz sprawling to the canvas. Penn follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Diaz hang on?
Diaz is rocked!
It looks like Ricardo Diaz has been cut.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Penn is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Diaz defends it well.
Diaz is in trouble now - Penn has advanced to mount!

Penn has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Diaz is forced to tap!
