Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Billy Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Wilkinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wilkinson has chosen Our Lady Peace - Whatever as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Wilkinson!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Joseph Jones and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Reed misses.

Wilkinson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Wilkinson tries to free his leg and advance position but Reed is retaining full guard.
Reed wants to stand up but Wilkinson is controlling him.
Wilkinson trying to control the position from guard on top but Reed is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wilkinson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Reed swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Reed throws the left hand but Wilkinson avoids the punch easily.

Reed shoots and misses

so Wilkinson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Wilkinson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Wilkinson wants to pass the guard but Reed is keeping the position.
Wilkinson trying to control but Reed is working from the bottom.
Wilkinson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Reed swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wilkinson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Wilkinson tries to pass to full mount but Reed defends it.

Wilkinson is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Reed has managed to free his arm - good work.

Wilkinson pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Wilkinson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Reed looks a forlorn figure.

Wilkinson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Reed is looking to escape.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Reed is refusing to be controlled, as Wilkinson sits in half guard.

Wilkinson wants to work for an arm triangle but Reed is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Wilkinson is pressing down on Reed's thigh, looking to free his foot. Reed is holding on for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wilkinson in particular looking to stall.
Reed is not content to let Wilkinson control the position.
Wilkinson works his foot free and advances to mount.
Wilkinson trying to control but Reed is having none of it.

Wilkinson goes for an armbar but Reed turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Reed.
Wilkinson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Wilkinson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Wilkinson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Reed has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Wilkinson's lack of action.

Wilkinson is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Reed defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Wilkinson misses with an elbow to the head.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Wilkinson's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Wilkinson is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Reed up.

Wilkinson tries to get the hooks in deep but Reed pushed the leg off.
Wilkinson is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Wilkinson lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Wilkinson.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Sam Wilkinson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Wilkinson throws a looping overhand right but Reed ducks down to avoid it.

and Wilkinson counters with a single leg into guard. Reed didn't expect that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wilkinson is pushing down on Reed's leg trying to pass to half guard. Reed is fighting to maintain full guard but Wilkinson has managed to sneak the leg through.
Reed won't allow Wilkinson to pass to mount.

Wilkinson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Reed is just riding it out for now. Wilkinson eventually gives up the hold.
Wilkinson wants to control but Reed is keeping him busy.

Sam Wilkinson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Reed looks to score with a jab to the body but Wilkinson is just out of range.

Wilkinson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Reed is trying to defend but Wilkinson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Wilkinson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Wilkinson is looking to advance position but Reed won't allow it.
Wilkinson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Reed with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wilkinson wants to take a breather but Reed is having none of it.
Reed gets back to full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Wilkinson tries to free his leg and advance position but Reed is retaining full guard.
Wilkinson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Reed wants to get back to his feet.

Wilkinson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Reed defends it well.

Wilkinson is working for a kimura here but Reed manages to reverse the position and he's now in Wilkinson's guard.

Wilkinson is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Reed can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Sam Wilkinson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Wilkinson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
