The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akiyama looks for a takedown but Sudo sprawls well.

and Akiyama takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

and Akiyama counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Akiyama is trying to control. Sudo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Sudo trying to hold on to Akiyama's head to control him but Akiyama postures up.
Sudo pushes Akiyama off looking to stand but Akiyama dives back in and keeps control.
Akiyama tries to pass to full mount but Sudo defends it.
Sudo is trying to maintain the position but Akiyama is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Akiyama wants to control but Sudo is keeping him busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Hyun Sudo.

Akiyama shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Akiyama is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Sudo can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

It looks like Hyun Sudo has been cut.

Akiyama goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Sudo is on top in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sudo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Akiyama has control of Sudo's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Sudo regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Sudo is wriggling around trying to escape.
Sudo tries to lock up and control but Akiyama gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Akiyama postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Sudo looks a forlorn figure.

That has opened up Hyun Sudo's cut even more.
Sudo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Hyun Sudo's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
