Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Octavio Paixao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paixao has chosen "Death by Blonde" by Devotchka as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Octavio Paixao will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paixao with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Jones.
A nice inside leg kick there by Paixao. That's going to slow Jones down.
Nice sprawl there from Paixao as Jones shoots in.
Jones ducks under a wild hook from Paixao.
Paixao cracks a nice hook into Jones's ribs.
Paixao avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Paixao throws a leg kick which misses Jones's front leg but catches the back leg as Jones tries to avoid it.
Good leg kick by Paixao there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Octavio Paixao seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Paixao lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Paixao.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Paixao buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Jones. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Jones closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Paixao wants to get back to his feet.

Paixao is positioning himself well to prevent Jones advancing to mount.
Jones is just content to waste time from the top position. Paixao takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones stands up from Paixao's guard - Jones perhaps looking for a knockout.
Jones will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A slapping leg kick lands for Paixao.
Jones shoots for a takedown but Paixao saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Paixao connects with a single shot there.
Jones throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Paixao, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Paixao against the cage but Paixao circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Paixao just misses with a punch to the body.
Jones takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Paixao finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Jones rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Paixao moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Jones looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Paixao misses with an uppercut.
Jones connects with a crisp jab.
Paixao lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Jones is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

A lazy left from Paixao finds it's target.
Jones defending well as Paixao loads up on a big left hand.
Jones shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Paixao pinned against the cage. Paixao gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Jones throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Jones takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jones tries to clinch but Paixao is having none of it.
Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Paixao's waist but Paixao gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.
Paixao digs a good body shot into Jones's ribs.
Jones takes one to the chin there.
Jones takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Paixao is retaining full guard.

Jones with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Paixao keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Jones wants to stand but Paixao has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Jones is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Jones shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Jones was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
