And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Johnny Monfriesz!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monfriesz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A decent looking cross lands there for Monfriesz.
Monfriesz throws a body kick that misses.
Angel blocks a head kick by Monfriesz.
Angel has his takedown stuffed
and Monfriesz counters with a nice uppercut.
Angel throws a jab when Monfriesz was well out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Monfriesz misses the target.

and Angel decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Monfriesz's guard.
Angel wants to pass the guard but Monfriesz is keeping the position.

Monfriesz keeping moving, preventing Angel from controlling successfully.

Angel is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Monfriesz is pulling down on Angel's head to control his posture.
Monfriesz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Monfriesz can't keep his opponent in guard - Angel advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Angel is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Monfriesz has managed to free his arm - good work.

Angel is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Monfriesz is just riding it out for now. Angel eventually gives up the hold.
Angel is keen to just control but Monfriesz is a slippery customer.

Angel is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Monfriesz defends it well.

Monfriesz is staying active underneath Angel, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Angel is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Monfriesz sees it coming and defends easily.
Angel wants to control but Monfriesz is keeping him busy.

Angel is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Angel seems to be working for a kimura but Monfriesz defends the submission attempt.
Angel is looking to take a break and control but Monfriesz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Angel is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Monfriesz doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Angel.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Monfriesz misses with the combination.
Monfriesz buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Monfriesz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Angel drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Monfriesz dives on top into guard.
Angel bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Monfriesz's guard.

Angel drops back, looking for a kneebar! Monfriesz looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Monfriesz looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Monfriesz!
Angel is trying to control Monfriesz's posture but Monfriesz avoids it.
Angel regains half guard.

Monfriesz decides to stand and escape the position.
Angel has his takedown stuffed
and Monfriesz counters with a left to the body.
Monfriesz walks into a jab.

Monfriesz throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Angel doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Monfriesz cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Monfriesz swings for the body but Angel moves out of range.
Monfriesz connects with a single shot there.
Angel misses with a wild body shot.
Angel keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Angel on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Monfriesz lands with a right hand.
Angel shoots and misses
and Monfriesz counters with a leg kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Angel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Monfriesz throws a head kick that misses.

and Monfriesz makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Monfriesz misses with a wild combination.
Monfriesz ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Monfriesz feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Angels jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Monfriesz throws a one two combo.
Angel has his takedown stuffed
and Monfriesz counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Monfriesz throws out a loose jab but Angel uses good head movement to avoid it.
A shot to the body from Monfriesz misses

and Angel counters with a nice double leg into side control. Monfriesz won't be happy with that.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Angel has an Americana. Monfriesz didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Angel is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Angel hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Frank Angel!
