PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rich Franklin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pyotr Kalashnikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Franklin comes to the cage accompanied by I Need a Doctor. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Franklin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kalashnikov tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Franklin grinds an elbow into Kalashnikov's temple.

Franklin decides to stand back up.
Kalashnikov throws a right hand that Franklin ducks under and follows up with a left that Franklin also avoids with ease.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Kalashnikov.
Kalashnikov fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Franklin looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Franklin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Kalashnikov has a closed guard, preventing Franklin from standing up.

Kalashnikov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Franklin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Franklin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Kalashnikov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Kalashnikov has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Franklin doesn't defend quickly enough and Kalashnikov has managed to lock this one up! Can Franklin escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Kalashnikov on a fantastic submission victory.
