PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Max Power (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jorge Ayala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Power's entrance music is Fabolous, 50cent, Mase - Breathe Remix. A fine choice. Ayala has chosen Nore - Cocaine Cowboys as his entrance music. Jorge Ayala told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Max Power!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jorge Ayala!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Dean Styles and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ayala moves away from the strike by Power.

Ayala drives through with a takedown into guard.

Power pulls Ayala in close to prevent any damage.
Ayala has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Power escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ayala gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ayala accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Ayala thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Ayala is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Power is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Power has escaped and now he's on top!
Power stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ayala swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Power is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Power wants to pass the guard but Ayala is keeping the position.

Ayala escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Power gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ayala is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Power is aware though and is defending well.

Ayala is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Power defends well.

Ayala has his foot on Power's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Power works his way back into a safe position though.

Ayala working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Power doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Power manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Power is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ayala shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Power sprawls well. Power wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ayala gets slowly back to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Power tried to score with a low kick but Ayala checks it.
Power tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ayala paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Ayala shoots in for a takedown but Power shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Power throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Power will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Power throws a right and a left that Ayala avoids nicely.
Power stuffs the takedown attempt from Ayala. Ayala gets slowly back to his feet.
Max Power has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jorge Ayala.
Ayala avoids the head kick by Power.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
A bone on bone clash there as Ayala blocks the leg kick.
Power misses with a hook.
Power wants to clinch.
Power throws a front kick aimed at Ayala's knee but Ayala avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Power dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Power misses with a low kick as Ayala jumps back.
Power tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ayala was well out of range. Poor timing from Power.

The fighters circling - Power throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Ayala shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Power as he avoids it easily.

Max Power seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ayala changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Power looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Power avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ayala.
Power parries the strikes from Ayala easily there. Ayala is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Power to escape.

Power is looking to reverse the position.
Power is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Ayala thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Power is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Power wants to control but Ayala is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Ayala missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Ayala looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ayala is trying to work for a kimura but Power is defending well.
Ayala looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Power with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Power is adopting a defensive guard.

Ayala stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Power swivels though and keeps the full guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Power controls Ayala momentarily but Ayala frees himself.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Ayala postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Power is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Ayala postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ayala throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Power works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ayala thows a big elbow that misses.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

I think Ayala has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
