PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Trevor Hasell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jess Holt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Holt has chosen Country Boys Can Survive by Hank Williams Jr as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holt misses with a wild combination.
Holt avoids the head kick by Hasell.
Holt tries to clinch but Hasell is having none of it.

Hasell closes the distance and clinches.

Hasell manages to break the clinch.
Holt stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Holt wants it to stay on the feet.
Hasell fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Holt clinches up against the cage.
Holt tries to circle away but Hasell has him pinned against the cage.

Hasell pulls guard successfully.
Hasell looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Holt trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hasell's guard.
Hasell is controlling Holt's posture.

Hasell uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Holt misses with a two punch combination.
Jess Holt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Holt swinging wildly here.
Holt fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Holt tries to close the distance and clinch but Hasell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hasell checks the leg kick.
Holt lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Hasell tries to clinch but Holt moves out of range.
Holt misses with a double jab.
Jess Holt is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hasell wants to clinch up but Holt keeps it at a distance.

Hasell gets the takedown into side control.
Holt is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hasell asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Hasell stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Hasell fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Trevor Hasell. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Holt swinging wildly here.

Hasell changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Holt looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Hasell is breathing heavily.
Hasell controlling the position from side mount.

Hasell decides to stand back up. Hasell steps back and let's Holt get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hasell moves out of range as Holt throws a body kick.
Holt throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Hasell.
Holt shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Holt scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Holt throws a combination. Hasell tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Holt will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Nice sprawl there from Holt as Hasell shoots in.
Holt scores with a leg kick.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Holt, right into the meat.
Hasell takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Holt plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Danga de danga de dang - Holt scores with a four punch combination!
Holt looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Holt gets a clinch.
Hasell keeps control of Holt as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Hasell dodges an elbow strike from Holt.
Holt blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Hasell looking for a takedown.
Holt slows down the pace here.
Holt is trying to push Hasell away but Hasell has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Holt is trying to break the clinch but Hasell has him pressed against the cage.
Hasell tries to pull guard but Holt holds him up against the cage and eventually Hasell drops back down to his feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Holt scores with a nice hook to the head.
Hasell tries to circle away but Holt has him pinned against the cage.
Holt has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jess Holt dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Holt lands a lovely overhand right.
Holt throws a lazy head kick

and Hasell counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Holt kicks Hasell off and gets to his feet.
Holt tries a head kick but it misses.
Holt darts in trying to clinch

and Hasell counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Holt is looking to break free of the clinch but Hasell has double underhooks.
Holt wants to break free but Hasell has control.

Holt tries to break free but Hasell pushes him back against the cage.
Holt looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Holt is trying to break free.

Hasell pulls guard successfully.
Holt would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hasell working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Holt doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Hasell is tightening it up a little... Holt has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Holt reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Holt taps out! nice BJJ there by Hasell!
