PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Fritiof Konkas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fritiof Konkas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryan Miller!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, John Kavanagh and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Miller shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Miller was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Konkas is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Miller cracks Konkas with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Konkas is in all sorts of trouble here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Miller is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Konkas to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Konkas shrugs it off.
Konkas regains half guard.
Miller is looking to take a break and control but Konkas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Miller in particular looking to stall.
Miller wants to free his trapped foot but Konkas is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Miller landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Miller really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Konkas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Konkas is trying to escape back to his feet but Miller uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Konkas is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Konkas has hold of Miller's hands but Miller slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Miller is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Miller winds up and cracks Konkas with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Konkas tries to get to full guard but Miller has control of the leg.
Konkas pushes Miller off looking to stand but Miller dives back in and keeps control.
Konkas is breathing heavily.
Miller is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Konkas reverses the position - he's now on top in Miller's guard.

Miller has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Konkas off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Konkas defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Miller.

Miller tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Miller is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Konkas has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Miller lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Miller fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Miller shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Konkas's guard.

Miller throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Konkas was covering up waiting for the punch and Miller finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Konkas is trying to hold Miller in close to prevent damage but Miller has managed to pass into half guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Miller connects with a nice short shot to Konkas's temple.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Miller has control of Konkas's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Konkas regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Ryan Miller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Miller uses his free foot to push down on Konkas's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Konkas.

Well Miller has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
