The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Shook. No joy for Matic on that attempt.

Shook swats away the attempt to clinch by Matic.

Shook is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Matic pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Matic lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Shook backwards.

Matic has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Shook uses from the top position.

Matic is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Shook postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Shook has gone for a leg lock! Matic slips out almost immediately though and dives into Shook's guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Matic jumps guard and drags Shook to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Matic decides to stand back up. Matic steps back and let's Shook get back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Shook stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Matic swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Good leg kick by Matic there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shook is looking for a sweep. Matic is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Matic looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Matic is taking a breather. Shook says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
