PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Don Corleone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James McQueen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McQueen has chosen Edguy - Ministry of Saints as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Don Corleone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, James McQueen!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Corleone misses with a takedown
and McQueen connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
McQueen keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

McQueen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Corleone looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

McQueen wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Corleone, who protects the arm well.
Corleone is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McQueen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McQueen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

McQueen wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Corleone, who protects the arm well.

McQueen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Corleone has escaped the position, nice work there.
McQueen working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

McQueen goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Corleone rolls with the submission and now he's on top in McQueen's guard! Nice work there by Corleone!

McQueen is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Corleone defends well.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now McQueen is on top in guard.

Corleone is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

McQueen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Corleone manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now McQueen has Corleone in his guard.
Corleone is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Corleone trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
McQueen controls Corleone momentarily but Corleone frees himself.
Corleone is working McQueen over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Corleone has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

McQueen has his foot on Corleone's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Corleone works his way back into a safe position though.

McQueen is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Corleone knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for McQueen on the ground.

and McQueen counters with a shoot takedown. Corleone fights it but they end up in guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!

McQueen has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Corleone is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for McQueen.

You can see the frustration on McQueen's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
McQueen gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Corleone winds up and cracks McQueen with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Good leg kick by Corleone there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

McQueen is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Corleone sees it coming and defends easily.

McQueen is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Corleone defends it well.

McQueen is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Corleone doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time McQueen.

Corleone is defending against the submission attempts here by McQueen.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Corleone is in trouble now - McQueen has advanced to mount!

McQueen is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Corleone has managed to escape the submission attempt.

McQueen looking to secure an arm triangle but Corleone defends it well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

McQueen working for a guillotine from mount but Corleone is in no mood to give up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James McQueen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

McQueen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Corleone is controlling him.

McQueen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Corleone doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Corleone manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

McQueen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Corleone's guard.

McQueen thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
McQueen wants to control from the top but Corleone keeps moving.
Don Corleone has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

McQueen is looking to work some ground and pound but Corleone has wrist control.
Corleone on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Corleone tries to get out of the position.
McQueen trying to control the position from guard on top but Corleone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Corleone looking to hit a scissor sweep but McQueen is one step ahead there.
McQueen looking to sit in guard and control but Corleone gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

McQueen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Corleone doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Corleone manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Corleone is posturing up here but McQueen has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Corleone tries to roll out but it's too tight and Corleone has to tap! Slick submission there by McQueen!
