The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vandelay staying out of range there.
Apae ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vandelay moves away.
Vandelay lands a nice looking kick to the body. Apae takes a step back to recover.
Apae thows a body shot but no joy.
Apae takes a swing at Vandelay's ribcage but misses.

Apae fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Vandelay, pushing him back against the cage.
Apae misses with a short punch on the inside.

Apae tries to work over Vandelay's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Apae wants to stall.
Vandelay tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Apae avoids it.
Vandelay tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Apae smiles and moves away.
Vandelay misses with an attempted mid kick.

Vandelay tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Apae manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Wilbur Apae seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Apae keeps the fight on the outside.

The fight stays on the outside here - Vandelay looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Vandelay throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Vandelay goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Vandelay tries to close the distance and clinch up but Apae swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Vandelay takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Vandelay changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Apae fights it off and pushes away nicely.
A chopping leg kick lands by Vandelay.

Vandelay lands with a kick to the temple. Apae shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Vandelay throws a leg kick which misses Apae's front leg but catches the back leg as Apae tries to avoid it.
Vandelay fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Apae.
Vandelay goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Apae missing with a left hand there. Vandelay was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Vandelay moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
