Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lyoto Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pentti Pena (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maia tries a head kick but it misses.
Maia has his takedown stuffed
and Pena counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Maia lands with a kick to the temple. Pena shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

letting Pena counter with a right hand.

Maia changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pena looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Maia tries for a kimura but Pena is defending well.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Pena is looking for a sweep.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Pena is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Pena can't do much from the bottom here.
Pena is trying to improve his position.
Maia wants to control but Pena is keeping him busy.

Pena avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Maia.
Pena is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Maia thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Pena regains half guard.
Pena makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Pena.
Maia prevents Pena from getting back to his feet.
Pena utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Maia got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pena has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Maia has managed to get both his arms back between Pena's legs - danger averted.
Pena pulls Maia in to control the position.
Maia trying to control but Pena is working from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Maia missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Pena looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Pena has his foot on Maia's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Maia works his way back into a safe position though.

Maia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pena swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Pena bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Maia is trying to control Pena's posture but Pena avoids it.
Maia gets back to half guard.
Maia is pressing down on Pena's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Maia is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Pena is aware though and is defending well.

A close round but Pentti Pena will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Pena slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Maia takes one to the side of the head.

Maia tries to roll over but Pena keeps him under control.
Pena winds up and cracks Maia with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Maia has hold of Pena's hands but Pena slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Maia makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Maia.
Pena must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Pena throws a big right hand that misses.

Pena stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Maia has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Pena manages to get his head free but now Maia has transitioned to an armbar! Pena grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Maia! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
