PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Toki Wartooth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Flash Rage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wartooth comes into the arena with Murmaider blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Toki Wartooth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Flash Rage!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rage moves out of range of the body kick.
Rage gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Rage takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Rage throws a combination that misses
and Wartooth counters with a nice uppercut.
Rage blocks the body kick.
Rage doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Wartooth counters with an outside leg kick.
Rage throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Horrible takedown by Rage or perhaps it was just good defense by Wartooth which made him look bad.
Toki Wartooth has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Flash Rage.
Wartooth scores with a head kick. Rage tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.


It looks like Flash Rage has been cut.

Rage throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Wartooth was covering up waiting for the punch and Rage finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Rage prevents Wartooth from getting back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Wartooth tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Wartooth is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rage defends well.
Rage trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Rage wants to control from the top but Wartooth keeps moving.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Rage trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Rage trying to control the position from guard on top but Wartooth is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Flash Rage wasn't active enough on the ground.
Rage lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Wartooth circles away quickly and effectively.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rage lands with a straight right. Wartooth didn't see that one coming.
Wartooth throws a right hand that Rage ducks under and follows up with a left that Rage also avoids with ease.
Toki Wartooth is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Wartooth counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
A jab from Wartooth finds it's way through Rage's defenses.
Nice straight punches there by Wartooth. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Wartooth.
Rage shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Wartooth counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Wartooth uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Wartooth wants to clinch

and Rage counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Rage is trying to control. Wartooth wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Wartooth avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rage.
The fighters are battling for position here. Wartooth manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Wartooth looking for a sweep. Not yet Wartooth, not yet.

Rage wants to stand but Wartooth has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Rage looking to pass the guard.
Rage prevents Wartooth from getting back to his feet.

Wartooth escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rage gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Wartooth is breathing heavily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wartooth is on top in guard.
Wartooth throws and elbow that misses. Rage uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Wartooth's guard. Nice move by Rage!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rage is looking to work some ground and pound but Wartooth has wrist control.
Rage wants to control from the top but Wartooth keeps moving.
Rage wants to pass the guard but Wartooth is keeping the position.
Rage trying to control the position from guard on top but Wartooth is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wartooth lands a jab to Rage's midsection.
Wartooth steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Rage.
Flash Rage is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wartooth dodges the punch combination from Rage.
Wartooth finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
An inside leg kick lands from Wartooth.

Rage looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Wartooth!
Wartooth is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Wartooth is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Rage can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wartooth is looking to escape.
Rage takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

BOOM! Rage connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Wartooth is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Rage lands a heavy elbow.
Wartooth is working to get back to half guard.
Rage trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Wartooth is trying desperately to improve position.
Rage is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Wartooth can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Wartooth keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rage trying to control but Wartooth is having none of it.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Wartooth wants to try and get back to his feet.
Rage lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Wartooth hang on?

Rage jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Wartooth manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Wartooth pushes Rage away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Rage gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Rage wants to control but Wartooth is keeping him busy.

Rage stands up and beckons Wartooth to his feet.
Rage swinging wildly here.
Rage shoots in and drives through. Wartooth sprawls well.

Rage shoots in and gets a takedown into Wartooth's guard.
Rage wanted to stand there but Wartooth had control of the position.

Wartooth pushes Rage off and gets back to his feet.
Flash Rage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rage fails with the takedown.

Wartooth cracks the inside of Rage's front leg.
Wartooth lands a leg kick that knocks Rage off balance momentarily.
Wartooth scores with a decent looking hook.
Wartooth misses with an uppercut

and Rage counters with a single leg into guard. Wartooth didn't expect that.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Wartooth wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Rage manages to pass to side control.
Wartooth is trying to get back to full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Wartooth is refusing to be controlled, as Rage sits in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Flash Rage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Wartooth's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Rage misses with a combination
and Wartooth counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Wartooth thows a body kick. Rage tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Rage feints and as Wartooth raises his hands in defense, Rage changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Rage fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Wartooth wants to control but Rage is having none of it.

Wartooth has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Rage's lack of action.
Wartooth avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rage.

Wartooth is not content to let Rage control the position.
Flash Rage has got the better of the ground game so far.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Rage has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Rage moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Wartooth has worked his arm free - good work by Wartooth!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Wartooth wants to get back to his feet but Rage drags him back down.

And that's the end of the fight!
Flash Rage comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rage has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
