PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Max Power (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenny McGrimshaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGrimshaw has chosen Pharoahe Monch - Simon Says as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Max Power!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kenny McGrimshaw!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGrimshaw shoots and misses
and Power counters with a straight right hand.
McGrimshaw with a poor takedown
and Power connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
McGrimshaw drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.


It looks like Kenny McGrimshaw has been cut.
McGrimshaw throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Power closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
McGrimshaw tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Max Power has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenny McGrimshaw.

Power has hold of one of McGrimshaw's legs. McGrimshaw is fighting the takedown attempt but Power gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Power has gone for a leg lock! McGrimshaw slips out almost immediately though and dives into Power's guard.

Power looking for a guillotine here but McGrimshaw defends easily.
Power pulls McGrimshaw in close to prevent any damage.

Power is looking for a triangle here but McGrimshaw uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Power is looking to reverse the position.
You can see the frustration on Power's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

McGrimshaw is trying to get an arm triangle but Power is defending well.
McGrimshaw tries to score with some ground and pound. Power controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Power tries to control the position but he's not in luck - McGrimshaw easily slips into full mount!

McGrimshaw moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Power has worked his arm free - good work by Power!
Power on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Power tries to get out of the position.
Power trying to control but McGrimshaw flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
McGrimshaw has the hooks in. Power is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Power is working hard here to advance position.
McGrimshaw gets his hands free as Power looks to control.
Power is keeping busy.

McGrimshaw is trying to stick to Power's back but Power is turning into McGrimshaw. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in McGrimshaw's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Power.

Power is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! McGrimshaw is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! McGrimshaw has escaped and now he's on top!

Power is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Power might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Power manages to get to full guard.
Power looking to hit a scissor sweep but McGrimshaw is one step ahead there.
Power manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. McGrimshaw manages to get himself to full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Power drops back, looking for a kneebar! McGrimshaw looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. McGrimshaw looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from McGrimshaw!

That was a close second round but I would say that Max Power will probably get the nod.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


McGrimshaw wants to clinch but Power slips to the side

and Power holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
McGrimshaw tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Power ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Power no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
McGrimshaw postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Power is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McGrimshaw is aware though and is defending well.
McGrimshaw stands and throws Power's legs to the side, diving into side control.

McGrimshaw is sitting in close to Power's body. Power has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! McGrimshaw is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, McGrimshaw is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Power.
