PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steve Headden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Castle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Frank Castle told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Headden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Castle!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Headden looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Headden gets in close and instigates a clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Headden creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Headden throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Castles head.


It looks like Frank Castle has been cut.
Castle throws a head punch that misses.
Castle lands a shoulder strike.
Headden is trying to drag Castle to the mat but Castle just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Headden drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A body shot lands from Headden.
Castle blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Headden pushes Castle back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Castle lands on the inside with an uppercut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Headden lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Castle backwards.
Headden with a knee to the head.
Headden is trying to drag Castle to the mat but Castle just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Headden. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Headden obliges.
Headden lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Castle backwards.
Castle pushes Headden back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Castle.
Castle takes a shot to the head.
Castle has a couple of punches blocked by Headden.
Castle misses with a body punch.
Headden blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Headden using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Castle has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Castle prevents a takedown attempt there.

Castle tries a body shot but Headden blocks it.
Headden blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Castle blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
A right handed body shot lands from Castle.

Headden is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Castle can't fight it off and eventually Headden manages to take the fight to the floor. Castle looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Castle wants to control but Headden passes easily into half guard.

Headden throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Headden thows a huge punch but Castle dodges it nicely.
Castle is trying to maintain the position but Headden is very close to passing his half guard.
Headden trying to mount his opponent but Castle defends it.
Headden is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Headden slips a nice elbow through Castle's hands, connecting with Castle's forehead.
Headden working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Headden wants to take a breather but Castle is having none of it.

Headden is looking for a kimura here.

Headden is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Headden has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Castle defend it? Headden steps over the head and cranks it - Castle is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Headden!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Steve Headden!
