PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Fiyero Lermontov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hade Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lermontov comes to the cage accompanied by Mr Suicidal. The crowd seem to be enjoying Wood's choice of entrance music: Mama Said Knock You Out. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fiyero Lermontov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hade Wood!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lermontov dives in and grabs Wood's left leg, looking for a takedown. Wood pushes down on Lermontov's head and hops out.
Lermontov swings widly with a right hand
and Wood counters with a nice uppercut.
Wood with a nice cross.

and Wood counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Lermontov thinking.
Wood misses with an uppercut
and Lermontov connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Wood connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Lermontov works over Wood's head and body with a nice combination.

Lermontov drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Lermontov is looking to take a break and control but Wood is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wood is refusing to be controlled, as Lermontov sits in half guard.
Wood manages to get to full guard.
Wood can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Lermontov controls the pace.

Wood has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lermontov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Wood is looking to work some ground and pound but Lermontov has wrist control.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Wood swings for the body but Lermontov moves out of range.

Wood shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wood showed some decent athleticism there.

Lermontov is defending against the submission attempts here by Wood.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hade Wood dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Wood feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Wood closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Lermontov quickly recovers to half guard.

Lermontov makes his way to full guard, as Wood worked for a kimura.

Wood drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Lermontov dives on top into guard.

Lermontov is pushing down on Wood's leg trying to pass to half guard. Wood is fighting to maintain full guard but Lermontov has managed to sneak the leg through.

Lermontov is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lermontov gets back to half guard.
Lermontov is trying to control but can't.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Wood connects with a nice short shot to Lermontov's temple.
Lermontov wants to control but Wood is keeping busy.
Wood wants to free his trapped foot but Lermontov is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Wood is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hade Wood showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Lermontov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wood has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lermontov has managed to get both his arms back between Wood's legs - danger averted.

Lermontov throws an ugly left hook that misses
enabling Wood to counter with a crisp jab.

and Wood counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lermontov won't be happy with that.

Wood working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Hade Wood has got the better of the ground game so far.

You can see the frustration on Lermontov's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Lermontov manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Lermontov is looking to control Wood's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lermontov avoid being mounted?
Wood throwing shots but Lermontov is blocking nicely.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wood throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Wood is trying to control the action in half guard but Lermontov is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Wood thows a huge punch but Lermontov dodges it nicely.
Wood thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lermontov's head.
Lermontov makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lermontov.
Hade Wood is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

I would just about give that final round to Hade Wood.
Well Wood has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
