PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Duck Striker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergey Boyko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Duck Striker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sergey Boyko!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Striker darts in trying to clinch

and Boyko counters with a takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Striker's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Striker throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Striker is looking to regain half guard here but Boyko keeps moving and retains side control.
Striker is trying to control Boyko's posture but Boyko avoids it.
Striker is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Boyko is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Boyko tries to stand but Striker controls the position and pulls Boyko into his guard.
Striker looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Boyko stands and steps away. Striker gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Striker blocks a head kick by Boyko.
That kick from Boyko tenderised Striker's leg. Striker is trying to keep his angry face on.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Striker has Boyko up against the cage in a clinch.

Boyko wants to break the clinch but can't.

Striker breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A head kick by Boyko misses
and Striker counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Boyko looks gassed!
Striker misses with a wild combination.
Boyko misses with a lunging right hand

and Striker counters with a nice double leg into side control. Boyko won't be happy with that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Striker tries to advance to mount but Boyko denies him.
Boyko is pushing Striker's head away, looking to escape. Striker manages to hold on to the position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Striker trying to control the action but Boyko is working from the bottom.

Striker decides to stand back up. Striker steps back and let's Boyko get back to his feet.
Striker closes this distance looking for a takedown but Boyko circles away.

Striker looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Boyko!

Striker looking to control but Boyko is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Striker working for a guillotine from mount but Boyko is in no mood to give up.
Striker takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Striker changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Boyko tries to avoid it but Striker manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Boyko to the ground. Boyko escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Striker dives in and grabs Boyko's left leg, looking for a takedown. Boyko pushes down on Striker's head and hops out.
Boyko bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

and Striker counters with a single leg into guard. Boyko didn't expect that.
Striker wants to stand but Boyko has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Striker is looking to work some ground and pound but Boyko has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Striker prevents Boyko from getting back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Boyko is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Striker trying to control but Boyko is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Duck Striker.
Boyko pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Striker lands a nice shot to the body.

Striker rushes Boyko and presses him up against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Boyko's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Striker pulls guard effortlessly.
Striker looking to control.
Striker bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Boyko's guard.
Striker trying to control the position from guard on top but Boyko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Boyko is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Boyko has a closed guard, preventing Striker from standing up.
Boyko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Striker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Striker wants to control from the top but Boyko keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Boyko has a closed guard, preventing Striker from standing up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Duck Striker wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Boyko scores with a jab to the body.
Boyko misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Striker moves in looking to clinch but Boyko pushes him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Duck Striker dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Boyko thumps Striker with a low kick.
Striker waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Boyko.
A solid body kick from Striker.
Boyko throws a hook but Striker avoids it easily.

Striker moves into the clinch successfully.
Boyko keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Striker's efforts to push away.
Striker lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Striker's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Striker.

and Striker counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Boyko can't keep his opponent in guard - Striker advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Striker is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Striker postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Boyko to stand up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Boyko wants to stand and escape but Striker is having none of it.
Striker trying to control but Boyko is working from the bottom.
Striker won't allow Boyko to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Striker will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Duck Striker has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Boyko circles away from the clinch attempt
and Boyko counters with a head kick. That will keep Striker thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Striker is defended easily by Boyko.
Boyko throws a head kick but Striker moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Striker shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Boyko defends it nicely.
Boyko keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Duck Striker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boyko scores with a sloppy right hand. Striker should have avoided that one.
Boyko misses the body punch

and Striker counters with a nice double leg into side control. Boyko won't be happy with that.
The strikes coming from Striker are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Sergey Boyko has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Duck Striker is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boyko tries to escape but Striker is in control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Duck Striker showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Striker has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
