Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Benjamin Ruggiero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cole Thompson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruggiero comes to the cage accompanied by Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Cole Thompson was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruggiero closes the distance looking to clinch
and Ruggiero takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Thompson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Ruggiero tries to hold on but Thompson postures up.
Thompson controlling his opponent.
Thompson prevents Ruggiero from getting the reversal.

Ruggiero tries to lock up and control but Thompson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Ruggiero is wriggling around trying to escape.
Thompson goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Ruggiero is on top in guard.
Ruggiero trying to control but Thompson is working from the bottom.
Thompson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Thompson pulls Ruggiero in to control the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Thompson tries to close the distance and clinch but Ruggiero swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ruggiero keeps the fight on the outside.
Ruggiero shoots and misses
and Thompson counters with a takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thompson in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Ruggiero trying his best to control but Thompson has mounted him.

Thompson is trying to control the action in half guard but Ruggiero is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Ruggiero pulls Thompson in close to his closed guard and prevents Thompson from doing any damage or advancing position.
Ruggiero has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Cole Thompson dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Ruggiero closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Thompson quickly recovers to half guard.
Ruggiero is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Thompson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ruggiero.

Thompson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ruggiero is working away from the top position though.

Thompson looks like he's trying to stand up.
Ruggiero content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
We're going to have a standup here because Benjamin Ruggiero wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Thompson with a poor takedown
and Ruggiero counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Thompson moves into the clinch.
Thompson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Ruggiero manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Ruggiero takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Thompson tries to buck Ruggiero off but he can't manage it.
Thompson tries to hold on but Ruggiero postures up.
Ruggiero wants to control the pace but Thompson is squirming around nicely.

Ruggiero takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Ruggiero's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Thompson sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Thompson looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Thompson has Ruggiero up against the cage in a clinch.

Thompson won't allow Ruggiero to sweep him here.

Thompson looking to sit in guard and control but Ruggiero gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Thompson throws a strike aimed at the side of Ruggiero's head but Ruggiero avoids it well.

Ruggiero tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Thompson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Ruggiero manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Thompson is trying to control. Ruggiero wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Thompson prevents Ruggiero from improving his position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Cole Thompson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Thompson tries for a takedown but Ruggiero circles away easily
and Ruggiero counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Thompson wants to get back to his feet.

Thompson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Thompson.
Thompson is looking to stand up but Ruggiero isn't so interested in that idea.
Thompson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ruggiero manages to get himself to full guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ruggiero holds on and takes a little breather.
Thompson trying to control the position from guard on top but Ruggiero is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ruggiero looking to hit a scissor sweep but Thompson is one step ahead there.
Thompson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ruggiero is proving hard to escape from.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Cole Thompson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Thompson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
