PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay ar Ginebra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Yamamoto.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ginebra moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Ginebra misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ginebra throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Silva stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Ginebra throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

It looks like Jon Silva has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Silva looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Silva is working for a kimura here but Ginebra manages to reverse the position and he's now in Silva's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ginebra drops back, looking for a kneebar! Silva looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Silva looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Silva!

Silva is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Ginebra knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Ginebra regains half guard, as Silva was trying to land strikes.
Ginebra pushes Silva off looking to stand but Silva dives back in and keeps control.

Ginebra is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Silva pulls his head out easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jay ar Ginebra was stalling too much, according to the referee.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jay ar Ginebra is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The referee warns Ginebra that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
