Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Lips tries for a takedown but Penn circles away easily
and Penn counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lips's guard now.
Lips wants to sweep but no luck.
Penn is pushing down on Lips's leg trying to pass to half guard. Lips is fighting to maintain full guard but Penn has managed to sneak the leg through.

Penn throwing shots but Lips is blocking nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lips on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Penn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lips keeps working.
Penn is looking for a kimura but Lips is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Penn to get the leverage.
Penn is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lips is just riding it out for now. Penn eventually gives up the hold.
Penn uses his free foot to push down on Lips's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Lips.

Penn goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Lips turns into him and now he's in Penn's guard.

Lips stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Penn swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Lips drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Penn dives on top into guard.
Penn thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Penn postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lips working a defensive guard but Penn passes into half guard.

Penn is looking to take a break and control but Lips is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Penn is nestled in close to Lips, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Penn is pressing down on Lips's thigh, looking to free his foot. Lips is holding on for now.

and Penn finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Penn fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lips sprawls well initially but Penn persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Penn wants to finish this one by submission but Lips is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Penn.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Penn wants to control the pace but Lips is squirming around nicely.
BJ Penn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lips wants to control but Penn is having none of it.

Penn is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Lips to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Lips shrugs it off.

Lips is squirming around, avoiding Penn's attempts to control the action.
Penn has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Lips's face.

Penn has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Penn is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Penn!
