PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Hampton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ali Issa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, James Hampton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Ali Issa!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Daniel Bishop and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hampton decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Issa has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hampton is working away from the top position though.
Issa gets back to full guard.
Hampton sitting in guard here, content to control.
Hampton scoring with punches to the head and body.
Issa controls Hampton momentarily but Hampton frees himself.
Hampton's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Issa trying to control the position.
Hampton might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Issa is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hampton is aware though and is defending well.

Issa is trying to control the position but Hampton postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hampton avoids the head kick by Issa.
Issa shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Hampton counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Hampton would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Hampton knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Issa on the ground.

Issa wants to get back to his feet but Hampton is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Hampton throwing strikes from guard but Issa blocks nicely.

Issa looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Hampton seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Issa wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

James Hampton has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Hampton tries to sprawl but Issa drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Issa frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Hampton decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Issa's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hampton accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Well, if Hampton is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Issa looks like he's trying to stand up.
Hampton thows a huge punch but Issa dodges it nicely.

Hampton's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Hampton wants to get up but he can't break Issa's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Issa has his foot on Hampton's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hampton works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Issa is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hampton asserts his dominance and retains side control.
A lull in the action here.
Hampton cracks Issa with a big right hand but Issa just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Hampton decides to stand back up. Hampton steps back and let's Issa get back to his feet.
Ali Issa has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
James Hampton is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Hampton pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Issa back to the cage. Hampton follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Hampton showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Hampton has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
