PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Frank White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jean Nicolas Richard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Frank White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jean Nicolas Richard!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Elvis Blanc and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

White closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - White lands in his opponent's guard.
White pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Richard is keeping the position for now.

Richard has his foot on White's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. White works his way back into a safe position though.
White really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
White forces his way into half guard.

White wants to work for an arm triangle but Richard is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
White is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
White wants to control the pace but Richard is squirming around nicely.
Richard is desperately trying to improve his position but White has a good base and remains in mount.
Richard is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
White fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Richard tries to get back to half guard but can't.

White get's back to his feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from White.
White circles away from the clinch attempt.
Richard stuffs the takedown.
White shoots in for a double leg but Richard sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank White. That's going to take a lot out of him.
White shoots in looking for a takedown. Richard tries to sprawl out of it but White keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Richard manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
White shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Richard but Richard pushes him off and we're back to square one.
White is breathing heavily.
White shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Richard pinned against the cage. Richard gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Richard keeps the fight on the outside.
White will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Horrible takedown by White or perhaps it was just good defense by Richard which made him look bad.
White shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Richard but Richard pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Richard takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Richard scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Richard cracks White with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
White is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Richard can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as White is looking to escape.
Richard is trying to take his opponent's back.
Richard controlling from mount.
Richard is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
White seems to have got his legs back now.

Richard has control of White's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and White regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Richard lands a nice shot to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Richard avoids the attempt from White to control.
Richard tries to control but White wriggling away.
White is trying to escape the mount.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
White sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Richard not doing much here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jean Nicolas Richard dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Richard shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Richard showed some decent athleticism there.

Richard decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Richard closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
White is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Richard off and has taken his back!
Jean Nicolas Richard has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
White struggling to land strikes to the head as Richard covers up.
Richard is trying to break free.

Richard trying to control the hands but White breaks the grip.

White is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
White misses with an elbow to the head.
White punches the canvas rather than the man.

White sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Richard taps out!
