PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andy Wuzz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Willy Cody (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wuzz comes into the arena with Lützenkirchen - German Kiss blaring out of the sound system. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Willy Cody was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Andy Wuzz!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Willy Cody!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Cody.

and Wuzz counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Cody tried to score with a low kick but Wuzz checks it.
Cody lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Wuzz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Wuzz in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Wuzz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cody is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The strikes coming from Wuzz are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Wuzz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Wuzz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cody defending against the ground and pound.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Wuzz goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Cody rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Wuzz's guard! Nice work there by Cody!
Wuzz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Wuzz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Wuzz has his foot on Cody's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cody works his way back into a safe position though.

Wuzz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cody doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cody manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Wuzz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Wuzz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cody doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cody manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Cody avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Wuzz is trying desperately to improve position.
Cody wants to stand but Wuzz is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Wuzz keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Cody tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andy Wuzz dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Wuzz wants to clinch up but Cody keeps it at a distance.

Wuzz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Wuzz trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Wuzz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Wuzz missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Wuzz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cody swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wuzz won't allow Cody to get back to his feet.

Wuzz postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Cody is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Wuzz, into his guard.

Wuzz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cody can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wuzz wants to sweep but no luck.

Wuzz is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Wuzz has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Cody doesn't defend quickly enough and Wuzz has managed to lock this one up! Can Cody escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Wuzz on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Andy Wuzz!
