PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kaina Correa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yunamuna Kumituki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kumituki is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Motörhead - Killed By Death . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kaina Correa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yunamuna Kumituki!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Correa fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kumituki sprawls well initially but Correa persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Correa postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Kumituki to stand up.
Correa fails with an attempt to clinch.

and Kumituki counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Correa is trying to maintain the position but Kumituki is very close to passing his half guard.
Well, if Kumituki is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Correa is trying to stand.
Correa is looking to improve his position.

Kumituki decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Kumituki throws a head kick that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Kumituki throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kumituki throws a wild body kick that Correa sees coming a mile off.

and Correa counters by moving into the clinch.
Correa has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kumituki is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Correa lands a hook that snaps the head of Kumituki backwards.


That has opened up Yunamuna Kumituki's cut even more.
Kumituki has had enough of the clinch but Correa keeps him there for the moment.
Correa misses with a knee strike.
Correa putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Kumituki in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Kumituki wants the takedown. Correa is fighting it off but Kumituki persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Correa's guard against the cage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kumituki is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Kumituki won't allow Correa to get back to his feet.
Correa can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kumituki controls the pace.
Correa bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kumituki's guard.
Correa distracts Kumituki with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Correa won't allow Kumituki to sweep him here.

Kumituki manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

I looks like Kumituki might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Correa is looking to improve his position but Kumituki isn't that keen on the idea.
Correa is working hard here to advance position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kumituki controlling the position easily from mount.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Correa is looking to improve his position but Kumituki isn't that keen on the idea.
Kumituki tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Correa tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Correa has hold of one of Kumituki's legs. Kumituki is fighting the takedown attempt but Correa gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Kumituki wants to sweep here but Correa controlling him for the moment.

Correa is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kumituki is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Correa is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kumituki gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Kumituki tightens his grip and picks Correa up, before dumping him to the ground. Correa manages to land in guard.
Kumituki engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Correa uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Correa tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kumituki swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kaina Correa. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kumituki jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Kumituki scores with a jab. Correa acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Correa drops his hands momentarily and Kumituki takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Kumituki avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Correa fails with the takedown
and Kumituki counters with a left to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kaina Correa will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Kumituki takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Yunamuna Kumituki.

Kumituki is trying to maintain a safe position but Correa gets an underhook and turns Kumituki into the cage.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Correa just misses with a elbow thrown towards Kumituki's brow.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Kumituki misses with a looping right.
Kumituki throws a push kick but Correa slaps the foot to one side.
Correa throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Kumituki counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Kumituki is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Correa looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Yunamuna Kumituki comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kumituki has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
