PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Firus Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Wong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams comes into the arena with Fuel-Hemorrhage blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Firus Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bruce Wong!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Ren Mimura and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Williams shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Wong manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Wong controls Williams momentarily but Williams frees himself.
Wong wants to sweep here but Williams controlling him for the moment.
Williams passes Wong's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Williams stalling.
Wong is trying to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Williams is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Wong regains full guard. Nicely done.

Williams stands up and waves to Wong to follow him.
Wong shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Williams counters with a takedown into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Wong's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Williams is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Wong's shoulder. That is not cool.
Wong tries to strike but it doesn't land.
Wong is looking for a sweep.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Wong sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Wong looks gassed!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Williams not doing much here.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Wong is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Well, if Williams is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Firus Williams.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Wong enables Williams to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Wong manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Williams gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Wong closes the distance but Williams moves to the side

and Williams counters with a nice double leg into side control. Wong won't be happy with that.

Williams stands up and we're back to a striking position.
A head kick by Wong misses

so Williams counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Firus Williams dominated that round.
That's time! Williams's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Wong misses with a looping left.
Williams checks a low kick from Wong.
Wong throws a body punch but Williams moves out of range.

Williams shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Williams showed some decent athleticism there.
Williams moves nicely into side control.
Firus Williams overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wong tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Williams wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Wong is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Williams remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Wong should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Wong is trying to escape the position but Williams is controlling the position.
Wong tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Williams decides to stand back up. Williams steps back and let's Wong get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Wong has his takedown stuffed

and Williams decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Wong's guard.

Williams stands and steps away. Wong gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Williams feints and as Wong raises his hands in defense, Williams changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Williams is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Wong looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Williams puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Williams perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Wong wants to control but Williams is keeping busy.

Williams stands up and beckons Wong to join him on the feet.

Williams scores with a takedown into Wong's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wong is trying to control the position but Williams postures up.
Williams controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Williams has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Wong manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Williams manages to get himself to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Firus Williams dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Wong doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Williams counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Williams.
Williams passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Williams moves into full mount! Wong won't be happy about that!

Williams is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Wong doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Williams counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Williams.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Williams sitting in guard here, content to control.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Wong working a defensive guard here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Williams shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Wong napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Williams controls the position from side control.
Williams seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Wong for as long as he can get away with.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Williams's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Wong can't do much from the bottom here.
Williams is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wong can do to turn this around?

Williams has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Wong is looking to clinch.
Firus Williams is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Wong gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

so Williams counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Firus Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bruce Wong.

And that's the end of the fight!
Firus Williams showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Williams has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
