PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bowman Rook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaquann Moss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rook's entrance music is Daughtry-What I Want. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bowman Rook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jaquann Moss!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rook drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rook working away.
Rook cracks Moss with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Rook fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Rook is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Moss is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Rook working the ground and pound but Moss is defending the strikes.
Rook tries to score with some ground and pound. Moss controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Rook sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Moss is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Rook could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Rook in side control, throwing shots but Moss defends.
Rook tries to advance to mount but Moss instead regains half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rook wants to stand up but Moss is controlling the position.

Rook working the head and body with strikes.
Moss keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The fighters are battling for position here. Moss manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Rook throws and elbow that misses. Moss uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rook's guard. Nice move by Moss!

Rook is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Moss trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Moss thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Moss is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Moss throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rook working a defensive guard but Moss manages to pass into side control anyway.
The referee asks Moss politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Moss prefers to stall for the moment though.

Moss decides to stand back up.
Moss shoots in for a takedown but Rook shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Moss tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rook sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Moss somewhat.

and Moss decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rook's guard.
Rook throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Rook will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Rook is working an open guard so Moss takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Moss doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Rook moves into the clinch.
Bowman Rook has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jaquann Moss.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rook is looking to break free of the clinch but Moss has double underhooks.
Rook jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Moss walks away with a smile on his face. Rook gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Rook fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

and Moss moves into the clinch.
Rook lands a shoulder strike.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Rook creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Moss takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Rook manages to pull guard.

Rook is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Moss defends well.

Moss gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
A punch combination from Rook misses.
Moss throws a front kick that sends Rook stumbling back into the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Moss misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Rook closes the distance looking to clinch

and Moss counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Rook wants to sweep but no luck.
Rook wants to improve his position but instead Moss has moved into half guard.
Moss lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rook misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Moss is looking for a kimura but Rook is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Moss to get the leverage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jaquann Moss dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rook gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Moss counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Rook stuffs the takedown attempt from Moss. Moss gets slowly back to his feet.
Moss closes the distance and clinches up with Rook, looking for a takedown. Moss pushes Rook against the cage but Rook circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Moss misses with a head kick.
Moss checks a low kick from Rook.
Rook shoots in but Moss avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Moss throws a body punch but Rook moves out of range.
Rook tried to score with a low kick but Moss checks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Moss tries a head kick but it misses.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rook attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Moss misses with a takedown

and Rook counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Moss!

Moss wants to hold on but Rook pushes him away.

The referee warns Moss that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Rook postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Moss looks a forlorn figure.

Moss is looking to get to half guard.
Moss tries to hold on but Rook pushes him away.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rook lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Moss hang on?
Rook lands a big elbow.
Rook punishing his opponent with strikes.
Rook fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Moss is trying to escape the mount.

Rook goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Moss turns into him and now he's in Rook's guard.
Rook wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Moss manages to pass to side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rook wants to get back to his feet.
Moss passes into side control, despite Rook's attempt to control the position.
Rook tries to buck Moss off but Moss is having none of it.
Rook can't do much from the bottom here.
Rook knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Moss on the ground.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rook looking for a sweep but Moss has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Moss sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Rook gets back to half guard.
Rook slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Rook pushes Moss off and scrambles back to his feet.

Rook closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bowman Rook dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Rook moves into range and clinches up with Moss.
Moss prevents the takedown attempt.

Rook breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rook shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Moss counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rook won't be happy with that.

Moss looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Rook wants to get back to his feet but Moss is dominant here and he's now got Rook's back!

Moss is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Rook with him. Rook is trying to defend but Moss has an arm under the chin now! Rook grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jaquann Moss!
