PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gucio Gucik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Cage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gucik kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Dawaj na ring !!!!. Cage has chosen "Coming Undone" by Korn as his entrance music. Alexander Cage has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gucio Gucik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexander Cage!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cage cracks Gucik with a good jab.


It looks like Gucio Gucik has been cut.
A head kick from Gucik lands but Cage takes it in his stride.

Cage throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gucik was covering up waiting for the punch and Cage finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Cage sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gucik looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Gucik working for a triangle but Cage defends it easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cage accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Cage should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Cage seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alexander Cage was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Cage looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Gucik looking for submissions off his back.
Gucik wants to get back to full guard.
Gucik is breathing heavily.
Cage controlling the action here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cage decides to stand up.

Cage tries to work over Gucik's front leg with a kick but Gucik checks it.

Cage shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Cage looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
It looks like Cage might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Cage uses his free foot to push down on Gucik's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Gucik.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gucik tries to lock up and control but Cage gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Cage has eaten all the pies!
Gucik is desperately trying to improve his position but Cage has a good base and remains in mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gucik is working hard here to advance position.
Cage is landing with some decent strikes but Gucik is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Cage has hold of Gucik's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gucik manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Cage has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Gucik's face.
Gucik wants to hold on but Cage pushes him away.
Cage controlling the pace for now.
Gucik in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Cage lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Gucik is in a horrible position here. Cage smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Gucik can't escape the position.

Cage cracks Gucik with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Cage looking to control but Gucik is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Cage is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Gucik can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Cage looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Gucik keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Gucik throws a strike but has given up his back in the process.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cage is not going to allow Gucik to sit and survive in this position.
Gucik rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Cage gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Cage displaying some good clinch control by pressing Gucik up against the cage.
Gucik is looking to break free of the clinch but Cage has double underhooks.
Gucik is trying to break the clinch but Cage is controlling him.
Cage tries to break free but Gucik pushes him back against the cage.

Cage looking to slow down the pace here.

Gucik wants the takedown. Cage is fighting it off but Gucik persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Cage's guard against the cage.
Gucik will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Cage has a closed guard, preventing Gucik from standing up.
Cage pulls Gucik in close to prevent any damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Let's hope that Cage has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Cage wants to sweep here but Gucik controlling him for the moment.

Cage is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Cage can't break the clinch.
Cage tries to circle away but Gucik has him pinned against the cage.
Gucik wants to get back to striking at distance but Cage won't allow it.

Gucik breaks from the clinch.

Cage shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gucik manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Cage decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gucik, up you get!
Gucio Gucik is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cage misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Gucik.
Gucik throws a right hand that Cage ducks under and follows up with a left that Cage also avoids with ease.
Cage misses with a jab, cross combination.
Gucik misses with a head kick.
Cage connects with a good right hand that stumbles Gucik. Gucik circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Cage has closed the distance and engaged Gucik in a clinch.
Cage is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Gucik is keeping busy.

Gucik wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Gucik has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Gucik manages to break the clinch.
Gucio Gucik seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A head kick misses from Gucik.

Cage shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Gucik has one foot on Cage's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Cage shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Cage was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Cage blocks Gucik's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Cage stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Cage will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Cage gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gucik to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Cage has Gucik pulled in close to control his posture.
Gucik has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Gucik is looking to stand up but Cage won't let him.
Cage pulls Gucik in to control the position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Alexander Cage wasn't active enough on the ground.

Gucik bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Gucik stands up and we're back to a striking position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gucik connects with a high kick.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Gucik tries to stand but Cage is controlling his head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Alexander Cage will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Gucik throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Cage changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gucik looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Cage advances to mount.

Cage stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Cage scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Alexander Cage has got the better of the ground game so far.
Cage lands a big shot there that rocks Gucik but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Gucik is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Gucik is desperately trying to improve his position but Cage has a good base and remains in mount.

Cage working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Gucik looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Cage! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Alexander Cage!
