PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jordan Bija (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scabby Bat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bija is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. The key to victory for Jordan Bija has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jordan Bija!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Scabby Bat!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Alexandre Firmino and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bat rushes Bija and presses him up against the ropes.
Bija is breathing heavily.
Bija jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Bat walks away with a smile on his face. Bija gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Bat shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bija is trying to defend but Bat finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Bat looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bat connects with a nice short shot to Bija's temple.
Bat perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Bat trying to control the action but Bija is working from the bottom.
Bat lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Ground and pound from Bat.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Bija is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Bat scores with a couple of nice shots.

Bat is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Bat has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Bat cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Bija throws a nice head kick!

Bija gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Bat to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Bat throws a big right hand that misses.
Bija wants to sweep but no luck.
Bat trying to control the position from guard on top but Bija is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bat scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Bija looking for a guillotine here but Bat defends easily.

Bat drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bat jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bija utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Bija will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Bat is looking to work some ground and pound but Bija has wrist control.
Bija is trying to control the position but Bat postures up.
Bat postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Bija has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bat can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Bat keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bija's head.

Bat landing some decent shots from guard.
Bija bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bat's guard.
Bija tries to stand but Bat is controlling from the bottom.

Bija trying to stand up but can't free himself from Bat's guard.
Scabby Bat has got the better of the ground game so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bat controls Bija momentarily but Bija frees himself.
Bija wants to control from the top but Bat keeps moving.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Bat not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bat tries to sprawl but Bija drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Bija is looking to take a break and control but Bat is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jordan Bija will probably get the nod.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Bat goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Bija turns into him and now he's in Bat's guard.
Bija is fighting to break Bat's control of his arms but Bat is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Bat has his foot on Bija's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bija works his way back into a safe position though.

I think Bat has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
