The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith misses with a takedown
and van Dorst counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Smith decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
van Dorst is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Smith scores with a couple of nice shots.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Smith lands a nice short elbow.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Smith connects with a nice short shot to van Dorst's temple.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
van Dorst wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith working over van Dorst with some ground and pound. van Dorst looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Smith looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Smith takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Smith landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Smith drops an elbow to the side of van Dorst's head.

van Dorst tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control.
van Dorst on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
van Dorst is still in real trouble! Can Smith finish him?

Smith lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt van Dorst quite badly. van Dorst pulls Smith in close trying to recover. Smith postures up and lands two really hard shots that put van Dorst on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but van Dorst doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
