PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Repetto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gora Sammo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, David Repetto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Gora Sammo!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sammo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Repetto as he avoids it easily.
Repetto swings for the body but Sammo moves out of range.
Repetto misses with a combination

and Sammo counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Sammo.

Sammo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Repetto dives on top into guard.
Repetto slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Repetto decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sammo, up you get!

Repetto throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sammo shoots in but Repetto avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sammo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Repetto avoids it really well and circles away.
David Repetto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gora Sammo.
Repetto throws a hook but Sammo blocks it.
Sammo shoots in looking for a takedown but Repetto manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sammo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Repetto lands with a hook. Sammo tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
A looping hook to the body misses from Repetto. Sammo does a little dance to reset his feet.
Repetto closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Repetto lands a nice shot that snaps Sammo's head back.

Repetto connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Sammo's hands.
Sammo uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Repetto.
Sammo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Repetto makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

so Sammo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sammo is looking to stand up but Repetto won't let him.

Repetto manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Repetto content just to control the position here.

Repetto is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sammo is surviving well by controlling Repetto's body position as best he can.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sammo avoids a strike by Repetto and manages to complete a very nice reversal in the process, to end up in Repetto's guard! Fantastic escape!

Sammo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Repetto is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sammo, into his guard.
Sammo wants to stand and escape but Repetto is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Repetto dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Repetto ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

and Sammo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Repetto won't be happy with that.
Repetto is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Sammo's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Repetto is looking for a sweep. Sammo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Sammo seems to be working for a kimura but Repetto defends the submission attempt.

Repetto wants to control from the top but Sammo keeps moving.

Repetto prevents Sammo from getting back to his feet.
Repetto has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Repetto stays in close to Sammo's body and controls the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up because David Repetto just wasn't active enough.
Repetto leaves Sammo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Repetto lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Repetto lands a nice shot to the body.
Repetto connects with a looping right hand.

and Sammo counters with a shoot takedown. Repetto fights it but they end up in guard.

Repetto bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sammo's guard.

Repetto is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Gora Sammo has got the better of the ground game so far.

Sammo uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Repetto misses with a shot to the body

and Sammo counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Sammo is trying to work for a kimura but Repetto is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Repetto wants to improve his position but Sammo is controlling well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sammo is working for an americana but Repetto has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Sammo was thinking about the submission.

Sammo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Repetto manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Sammo has Repetto in his guard.
Repetto is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gora Sammo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Repetto connects with a good right hand that stumbles Sammo. Sammo circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Repetto fails to land with a series of punches.

Repetto wants to control but Sammo is having none of it.

Repetto takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Sammo goes for an armbar but Repetto turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Repetto.

Repetto is working Sammo over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Repetto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sammo swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We're going to have a standup here because David Repetto wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Repetto misses with a series of wild punches.
Repetto connects with a jab.
Sammo stuffs the takedown.
Repetto lands a lovely overhand right.

Sammo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Repetto.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Repetto. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sammo takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Repetto stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Repetto wants it to stay on the feet.

Sammo shoots in and gets a takedown into Repetto's guard.
Repetto will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Sammo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Repetto looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Repetto looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Repetto!
Sammo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Repetto is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sammo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ground and pound from Repetto seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Gora Sammo.
I think Sammo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
