Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rutten tests Lang's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Rutten avoids the head kick by Lang.
Lang circles away from the clinch attempt

and Lang counters by moving into the clinch.
A nice left hand lands by Rutten.
Rutten misses with some punches.

Lang manages to break the clinch.
Rutten misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Lang.

Rutten gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Lang.

Lang tries to pull guard but Rutten won't allow it.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rutten can do anything to dispel that myth.

Lang is working for a kimura but Rutten is defending it quite comfortably.

Rutten is staying active underneath Lang, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Herman Lang has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Lang wants the takedown. Rutten is fighting it off but Lang persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Rutten's guard against the cage.

Lang drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lang jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Rutten is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Rutten manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Lang wants to hold on but Rutten pushes him away.
Lang is desperately trying to improve his position but Rutten has a good base and remains in mount.
Lang has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lang is bucking up trying to escape but Rutten cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Lang keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rutten really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lang. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Rutten breaks from Lang's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Lang slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Rutten thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lang's head.
Lang misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Rutten working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lang wants to improve his position but instead Rutten has moved into half guard.
Lang has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rutten is working away from the top position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Herman Lang will probably get the nod.

Lang swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rutten throws a hook but Lang avoids it easily.
Rutten swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Lang counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Lang.
Rutten keeping moving, preventing Lang from controlling successfully.
Rutten not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lang wants to control from the top but Rutten keeps moving.
Lang stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rutten swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Rutten is pulling down on Lang's head. It's preventing any offense from Lang, at least for the moment.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Rutten misses with a hook to the body

and Lang counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Rutten slowing the pace effectively.
Lang tries to work over Rutten's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Lang is trying to drag Rutten to the mat but Rutten just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Rutten looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Lang wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Rutten has him pressed against the cage.
Rutten trying to stall but Lang improves his position.
A right hook to the body lands for Rutten.
Lang looking to throw knees to the head but Rutten is blocking nicely.
Rutten is pressed up against the cage. Lang has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Rutten down to the mat. Rutten avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Rutten lands with a nice body kick.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rutten lands with a straight right. Lang didn't see that one coming.
Lang gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Rutten.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Oooooh!!! Rutten has knocked Lang down with a huge combo! Rutten steps away and waves a wobbly Lang back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Lang is rocked!
Crack! Rutten connects with the perfect overhand right and Lang falls face first to the canvas. Timbeeeeeeeer! Beautiful knockout for Rutten!
