Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Antonio Vegata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Smilehoven (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jim Smilehoven told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Vegata!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jim Smilehoven!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Thiago Cunha and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vegata shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Smilehoven sprawls well. Smilehoven wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Vegata gets slowly back to his feet.

Vegata closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Vegata tries to advance to mount but Smilehoven denies him.
Smilehoven is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Vegata has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Vegata is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Smilehoven is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Vegata wants to control but Smilehoven is keeping him busy.

Vegata is trying to get an arm triangle but Smilehoven is defending well.
Vegata wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smilehoven keeps working.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Vegata thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Vegata trying to control the action but Smilehoven is working from the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Smilehoven is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Smilehoven looks gassed!

Vegata has hold of Smilehoven's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Smilehoven seems comfortable defending it but Vegata has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Smilehoven is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Smilehoven is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Vegata couldn't care less - he's delighted!
