PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Arnold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Keller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jimmy Keller told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Arnold!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jimmy Keller!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Keller darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Keller lands with a punch from half guard.
Arnold wants to get back to his feet.
Keller not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Keller trying to pass the guard but Arnold defending well.

Keller is working for a submission of some sort.

Keller stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Arnold to get to his feet.

Keller changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Arnold looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Keller postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Keller sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Arnold is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Keller wants to control but Arnold is keeping him busy.
Keller might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Arnold kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Keller throws an elbow but Arnold slips to the side and avoids it well.
Keller works to advance to full mount. Arnold defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Keller tries to control but Arnold wriggling away.

Arnold's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Arnold wants to control but Keller is having none of it.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Arnold trying desperately to get to his feet.
Arnold wants to hold on but Keller pushes him away.
Keller looking to control but Arnold is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Keller scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Arnold?
Arnold takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Keller lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Keller lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Keller is landing with some decent strikes but Arnold is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Keller is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Arnold to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Arnold shrugs it off.
Keller lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Keller is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Arnold can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Arnold is trying to get to the ropes to help him get back to his feet.
Arnold is bucking up trying to escape but Keller cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Arnold is in a horrible position here. Keller smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Keller closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Keller lands in his opponent's guard.
Keller throws a strike but Arnold rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Arnold would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Keller manages to escape and get back to his feet.
John Arnold seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Keller is breathing heavily.

Keller looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Keller is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Arnold is just riding it out for now. Keller eventually gives up the hold.

Keller wants to take a breather but Arnold is having none of it.
Arnold pushes Keller off looking to stand but Keller dives back in and keeps control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Arnold moves into full guard.
Arnold trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Arnold is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the ropes but Keller has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Keller cracks Arnold with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Keller is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Arnold has escaped the position, nice work there.

Keller avoids the attempt from Arnold to control.
Arnold is squirming around, avoiding Keller's attempts to control the action.

Arnold pushes Keller off looking to stand but Keller dives back in and keeps control.

Jimmy Keller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jimmy Keller hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Arnold throws a head kick that half lands.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Keller is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Arnold defends it well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

That was a close round but John Arnold did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Keller had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Arnold defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Arnold wants to get back to his feet.

Keller has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Arnold throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Keller works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Arnold is posturing up here but Keller has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Arnold tries to roll out but it's too tight and Arnold has to tap! Slick submission there by Keller!
